Sunday afternoons • Today’s daily blossom is the result of a lot of hard work. Flowering gums sometimes grow large gum nuts but these nuts don’t always fall off. One of the trees outside my parent’s place has been looking sick and it is apparently because it’s has kept three years of nutty growth! So I chopped about 2kg of gum nuts off it and the results are glorious!
@australia.native.edible.flower has an ever expanding database of all #australianativeplants blossoms that you can eat. It’s my sister project so be sure to jump on if your after something different. #australianative
Mint Bush - Prostanthera, commonly known as mintbush or mint bush, is a genus of flowering plants of the family Lamiaceae. There are about 90 species within the genus, all of which are endemic to Australia . Lamiaceae family of plants include widely used culinary herbs, such as basil, mint, rosemary, sage, savory, marjoram, oregano, hyssop, thyme, lavender, and perilla. Mint bush doesn’t present intense ‘mint’ flavour profile and is much more subtle - this also is true of the blossoms. Many of these prostanthera haven’t been tested for edibility however it may be fair to assume they are true ...
Fiddling with ideas for the Grevillea inspired cushion covers. I think I've nailed down the design but need a good custom rubber stamp maker and/or screenmaker. Any recommendations? #brisbanescreenprinting#rubberstamping
Our tennis ball banksia baxterri are back in volumes just in time for the Australian Open . How does nature create such circular symmetrical foliage with textured flowers. #australiannativeflowers#australiannativeplants
Red shouldered leaf beetle - Monolepta australis - has showed up in our garden again after the recent extreme heat. This year they’ve smashed the flowering gum blossoms and our capsicums. They’re swarming in large numbers on the Illawarra flame trees. I’ve hosed them from the avocado trees for now hopefully they’ll stick to the ornamentals. #australiannativeplants#australiannativeflowers

Leptospermum liversidgei, commonly known as lemon-scented tea-tree, swamp may, olive teatree, or lemon teatree, is a shrub to 4 m found naturally growing in wet coastal heath in Eastern Australia. Displays a distinctive lemony aroma due to the presence of citral chemotype which is used as a bushfood spice to flavour teas and food products. This citral chemotype is sometimes called "lemon teatree" when the dried leaves are used in tea, and as food flavouring. The flowers taste lemony and citrus peel like. Are small and easily diffused on the palate. Thanks to Wikipedia for content. #australianative#australiannativeflowers ...

A few days ago, I was at the Castle Hill Flower Power which has a great selection of Australian natives including Banksias. I thought about buying a prostrate Banksia but wasn’t certain so I decided not to. Today, we went to the Taren Point Flower Power with the hope of buying a prostrate Banksia. Unfortunately, there were none in stock. A little disappointed, I left the garden centre, but as I exited, just outside was a little flower shop and on display by the window were two buckets of Banksia flowers - Banksia burdettii and this, Banksia baxteri. I had ...
Day 14 of #21daysinmyartworld I’m surprised that Emergence is still hanging out on my wall at home. It’s the last Australian native left in my original series. When you by from an artist you are supporting a dream and a way of life. You are buying hours of practice and and hard work. You are supporting a vision and sharing appreciation for dedication. Thank you to all who support my journey. Emergence is available either directly or follow the link in my bio to @bluethumbart

I cannot tell you how much I love this book MAMIE by @taniamccartney . I'm not sure if it was the beauty of the illustrations or that it made remember how much of this little girl still lives inside me, but it filled me with such joy I wanted to cry...much to the amusement of my two girls! This book is a keeper and should become part of the library handed down to your children's children. It not only celebrates the life and work of the incredible May Gibbs whose home (now a museum) I visited in 2014 but also ...
