Some of these blooms are only available during the winter season so if your in love with these winter flowers you must get married in.... you guessed it.. A post-hike celebratory drink was in order, so I was surprised when we pulled up here. Behind this unassuming gold rush era hotel lies a dreamy secret beer garden. Seeped in history, the Cardrona Hotel is the perfect respite stop between Wanaka and Queenstown. If you’re roadtrippin on the South Island, check it out! #hoptoit
It seemed high time for a #casuallean yesterday amidst the grapes of @cloudybay in Central Otago. Love the colour of #lakedunstan behind, not to mention the shadows in the grooves of the mountains. Cloudy Bay have been making acclaimed wines in Marlborough (top of the South Island) since the 80s, but in recent years have also acquired a couple of stunning vineyards near Cromwell in Central Otago. Here writing for @nzhtravel for the launch of @thecloudybayshed.
Media Launch Event going on at the Shed for the next 2 days & a beautiful component tasting of Te Wahi 2016 & its Northburn & Calvert single vineyards blend. What a treat and an educating experience 🍷👌🏻 #cloudybay#tewahi
Is this the most beautiful vineyard in NZ??? Well it’s easy to see why people flock here for the heavenly vistas. But Rippon is so much more than the views. The wines are stunning, reflecting the beauty not only above but below the soil and truly representative of place and the labour of love needed to get grapes grown and wines produced. . And so to the rarest of things, Osteiner. A grape produced from the crossing of Riesling and Sylvaner and Rippon is one of 2 sites, worldwide, to have it growing. . Rippon. Osteiner 2018. Wanaka. Central Otago. ...
The road to Hamiltons, Maniototo. 35mm Velvia 100 ISO slide film. Polarizing and UV filters. As a big fan of taking random back-roads, this is the kind of discovery that makes all the dust and damage to my faithful car worthwhile. Hamiltons was one of the many gold fields that sprung up across the Maniototo in the 19th century. A certain Captain Hamilton discovered gold on his sheep station in 1863 and by 1864 4000 miners swarmed the area. It was certainly a rich little spot - over 80,000 ounces of gold came out of a ...
Maniototo drought. 35mm Velvia 100 ISO slide film. Polarizing filter and 300mm lens. This was taken a few years ago during a particularly severe dry spell but the same thing is continuing to happen and will probably get worse. Sheep struggle to survive in these conditions and there are now huge dairy farms in the Maniototo which require vast amounts of irrigation. What is the future of this special place? #nzphotography#landscapephotography

Just a Tuesday evening @ameliamah appreciation post ❤️❤️❤️ “that’s when I knew what a true friend was. Someone who would always love you-the imperfect you, the confused you, the wrong you-because that is what people are supposed to do” So glad our friendship no longer consists mainly of 4am quad coffee shots and crying on the kitchen floor and stress screaming in the middle of the night over deadlines. Oh wait, that was just me 😂😂 But man, did we have some great & crazy times-with so many more to come (even though they’re a little less insane these ...
Central Otago. Winner of the Wine Region with The Most Spectacular Scenery 🏆 These photos (unedited, no filters) don’t do it justice - you’ll just have to go & see for yourself! ✈️ - 🇳🇿 Central Otago is the world’s most southerly wine-producing region. It’s also the only semi-continental climate in NZ (the others are maritime). It’s the driest & the most inland region. The climate is extreme. I remember freezing in Winter (you can go skiing ⛷ around Queenstown & Wanaka) & baking in Summer (late 30s, sometimes even above 40 degrees). There is also a big diurnal range. ...
Great to see @thomas___oh and the @kinross_nz team getting hands on with The One Glass for Every Wine. We are trying the new range from @jancisrobinson and @richardbrendonstudio here at @kinross_nz I used very often the #zalto Universal in France and I am really enjoying this new glass too. #centralotago

I’d forgotten just how stunning the South Island of New Zealand really is! Don’t get me wrong, there are so many parts of the north that are crazy beautiful too. But it feels like there’s nowhere else in the world with the same rolling hills and mountains of Central Otago. Next time I plan on coming back here in spring to catch all the flowers in full bloom 🌷🌸🌼🥀 #centralotago#newzealand 📸 @missparisphoto . . . . . . . . . . ...
There is no such thing as a free lunch at Felton Road – even for their goats. ⠀ ⠀ Sweet Briar has overtaken some of the hillsides in Bannockburn. The local norm is to burn or spray with harsh chemicals, which is not an option for the #feltonroad team. Their solution has been to run a herd of African Boer goats as they prefer to lunch on these bushes over grass or other plants. Problem solved!⠀
We don't like to blow our own horn but the lovely reviews that we have received recently make it tough not to share them with you! "Book this place QUICK if it is available. Im working in Central Otago tomorrow morning so i thought i would come down and get an early start. This was just on dark on the Kyeburn-Waipiata Road, looking down the Taieri Valley. Sky was starting to blacken off, you can see the rain falling over McRaes Mine. I quite like the contrast of the funky clouds and the little bit of fire under them. #stormbrews#centralotago check out and follow my other insta page @david.bruce.boraman or come check out https://www.facebook.com/wetfeetphotographynz/ ...
Maniototo fire. 35mm Velvia 100 ISO slide film. 800 years later we're still burning Central Otago...smoke from a deliberately lit fire obscures the sun. Farmers still burn off areas of native tussock to stimulate Spring growth. I'll let you draw your own conclusion... #nzphotography#landscapephotography
Maniototo near Ranfuly. 35mm Velvia ISO 100 slide film. Polarizing and UV filters. Not all of the Maniototo is wild and unchanged...in fact the whole area has been heavily modified by humans several times. It was all forest full of moa before humans, then there was fire, hunting, farming, mining, roads, and power lines... It's so beautiful and yet kind of an artificial landscape...an interesting paradox to explore through photography :) #nzphotography#landscapephotography
So pleased we got to show some of the fabulous @kinross_nz team our little piece of Bendigo this morning - thanks for coming to visit : Repost from @thomas___oh using @RepostRegramApp - Monday morning at #quartzreef#bendigo vineyard with Rudi and Lianne. We had the chance to discover the philosophy behind the label. I learned so much about Otago soils and terroirs!

As summer creeps to a close we can't help but get excited about the approach of Autumn - especially in Central Otago where the golden colours really come out to play! What adventures do you have planned for fall? #nzallover 📸 @carrot.and.greenpeas . #instagoodmyphoto
RACE REPORT - CHALLENGE WANAKA AQUABIKE Long story short - I had a cold onboard, super slow swim and I burned my remaining matches on the bike trying to make good time. * By the time I got to the Dublin Bay aide station it became obvious that my race was going pear shaped when the medic asked if I was okay, since I was breathing heavily. I told her it was a cold, unlikely to make the cutoffs, but I was going to see how far round I could get. The climb up Maungaweka Hill drained my ...
