So I’m making it in under the wire on the #sewcialistsminichallenge - my word was spicy. • Lawd let me tell you there is nothing spicy about me so I had to think about it! HARD! I finally decided spices is spicy and the colors reminded of a piece of knit from the collection. • That’s how the #pembroke tunic came to be. So my pics are of the front & back of the tunic. Along with a pic of how I’m going to wear the tunic with a cardigan I made a couple of years ago. • I think ...
Here’s my newly finished dress I sewed #simplicity8178! Did quite a few modifications to fit me, did a size 14 top, & graded the skirt to be A-line! Also I added an extra inch on the skirt seam , so when adding elastic there is room to sew the seam over the elastic. I don’t think there is enough allowance for that. Sorry I’m not smiling, it’s a hot day to take photos comfortably, but I can say the dress is very cool to wear! #sewing
‘Oldest stash yarn’ entry for the Aussie sock knitters Ravelry group Mar/Apr 2019 KAL. Yarn: Moda Vera Noir in ‘Lolly mix’ colourway. Purchased 2013. Pattern: Gingell socks by Chrissy Graham @manicpurl #askmar19#sockknitting
In an attempt to remind myself to be grateful and appreciative of all the blessings and thing I have in love, this Lent, I gave up purchasing fabric (the only exception is my #sewhayleyjanesewingsubscription; some things are sacred!). I think I mentioned this before, but my grandma was a total fabric hoarder before we moved her into assisted living and I have it all now. Today I decided to go “shopping” for fabric my storage unit and came across this gorgeous cotton woven shirting from 1981 and I need to use it for something. Any suggestions for what this wants ...
It’s been a while since I knitted a shawl but then I found these two skeins of Wollmeise Blend in my stash. Paired with the pattern Childhood Memories by @malihadesigns I now have a shawl that exactly matches my winter coat.😀👌 #knittersofinstagram#knittersofravelry
A #vneckboxy dance 💃🏻 being done! Couldn’t be more happier with it!! Never thought I could wear such a oversized garment, but it’s so comfy!! And ♥️♥️♥️ the color!! ..................... .......... ....... Pattern: Vneck Boxy by @jojilocat ....... Yarn: @squooshfiberarts Rapture Sport-weight in Raisin color. ..................... Positive Ease: Lots of it!!!!! .................... 🧶 Knitting 🧶 in the round : Lots of it 😆 Lots of movies🍿 watched! .................................................... #vneckboxydance
Two freshly cast on projects from #deepstash for #malabrigomadness ... up top is the by @petiteknit and below is the by @amyvdlaar Am I the only one who doesn’t like casting on? I find it a bit laborious getting used to the pattern. It’s like when you’re driving a new car that first time you have no idea where anything is. You’ve got to give it time and a bit of distance - and it’s absolutely fine by the second time you drive that car. No? Just me then! 😂
More hand spun socks please. 😊 This yarn is spun from Corridale fleece that I washed, flicked, spun and dyed. It was when I had only just started spinning so it is nice and uneven. 😁 I never knew what to make from it since it is quite rustic (not soft enough for hats or shawls) and a 2ply (not the best for socks). 10 years later I think it is better it becomes socks than it is just yarn sitting in my stash... It will be part of my #tuffsocksnaturally experimenting. 👍🧦 #handspun ...
Another FINISH!!!!💃🏽🕺🏾💃🏽🕺🏾A few years ago, I had the bright idea of getting these ADORABLE 🐰 panels... I *planned* on making them for my child, nephew and nieces. That didn’t happen. . . I made 1 panel and that was enough bunnies! Over the years of sewing this... I managed to put the ears on wrong twice, and couldn’t figure out the dress... since I cut everything out and it wasn’t labeled.🤷🏽♀️ but it’s done! #toofussy#mrandmrsbunny
1st day of sampling a new bag I just sewed up / I really like this style of mini tote/bucket bag to use as a lunch bag! Used some #deepstash of #amybutler fabric which has turned out really nice, & tried a different way of attaching some hardware on the top of bag so I can attach detachable shoulder straps!
Finally getting around to this pattern! It's been in my queue for YEARS now. The perfect yarn swam up from the depths of the stash, the exact contrast needed appeared, and here we are. #hansisingh#octopus
Making progress on with my second York pinafore. In-seam pocket hack and bias facing using quilting cotton from my stash. Cheery main fabric is Menagarie Roses from @riflepaperco @cottonandsteel purchased at @island_sewing #yorkpinafore#youcanhackit
It’s #wipwednesday and I whipped out an old #wip from early 2017 in the spirit of It’s the by @lauranelkin and I’m using from @thewoolroom @longmeadowfarmwool for the main colour and @threewatersfarm is the gorgeous pop of colour - a souvenir yarn from a trip with @mimissister to @yarnsetc. The black is that I got in a from @lissisgd and @blueberrypatchkid at my lovely @driftwoodyarns. The sweater is an interesting sideways construction and I’ll be starting the joining very soon. Between @_natasha_taylor_ and I we could finish 5 for the ...
Vertices united! Not sure I can ever face an icord border ever again, especially on such a monster sized shawl as this. A lot of fun to knit - I might even be motivated to weave in the ends so I can wear it!! #verticesunite#verticesuniteshawl
While one shawl is blocking. Started a second shawl, Sugared Violets by Rose Beck. The yarn is scrummy. Love the various purple shades. This is good tv/potato chip knitting compared to some of my other projects. Yarn is Ball and Skein glissade merino and silk color way is Iris. Bought quite a few years ago. #shawlknittersofinstagram#sugaredvioletsshawl
Had a sweater quantity of this @katsriversidestudio fingering for at least 3 years. I was such a yarn newbie when I bought this and had no idea about yarn weight, different fibers, gauge etc. Oh how far I have come! 😊 This will finally find a place in my wardrobe as the @amymillerknits #jamessweater which I think will show off the yarn beautifully. Cast on last night and can't stop knitting 😝
October 2007 I learned I was expecting a baby. I bought this yarn that weekend. When she was 1, I knit her a sweater from that yarn. This weekend I learned that you can make this much #squid from #leftover That baby girl is 10.5 yrs old now.
My 1st Nora tee by @tillybuttons in a beautifully drapey lightweight cotton spandex bought from @girlcharlee about a year ago. If, like me, you 💗 a dropped shoulder relaxed fit tee - with a crew neckline which doesn’t choke you - then this could be your 👌 tee pattern. Also, if you are new to sewing knits, then Tilly’s instructions/tips are excellent. Have a great weekend! #sewingnora#planningforseville
All of these fabrics are from my fabric collection. The beige floral is a silk twill and will be a shirt from my TNT pattern. The rayon beige knit is for a #pembroketunic and the coral paisley knit is for a #simplicity8059 cardigan. These are the next things I’m batch cutting. I’m sewing the remaining two items from the last batch now. @cliophineas I’m really liking this new way of sewing. Oh and all of this is fabric!
Day 9: 9th in my queue. Sabine by Julie Weisenberger. Slightly embarrassed to admit that I purchased the yarn (Dream in Color Baby) way back in 2010, during Stitches East, from Marji’s Yarncrafts. Someday... #fiberuary#fiberuarychallenge
Reason no. 683 why I love knitting: yarn cakes look delicious! I normally use a centre-pull ball, the exception is using a 200g ball of gorgeousness from #bendigowoollenmills This was a back-room purchase at the mill more than 10 years ago #deepstash
This is my completed #yorkpinafore from @helens__closet in a mystery fabric from #deepstash, and another ticked off. (My mannequin has a broken shoulder, is less lumpy than me😉, but wearing the cocoon shape better than the coat hanger. Hoping to get a posing pic at the weekend). 💕 it enough to drop the daily 🥶 jeans/jumper combo, and wore out for ☕️ and 🍰 today. It’s 35 years since I last wore a pinafore, but felt very comfortable and foresee another in denim. As a beginner/returner, I found Helen’s pattern instructions very detailed and easy to follow, it ...
Weekend crafting - another finished Dover Jkt from a black flocked glen plaid ( #deepstash). Relearning how to make buttonholes for larger buttons since my sewing machine doesn’t make a buttonhole over 1” and I only need two more rows and the second crocheted blanket is done. • That’s my sewing/crafting weekend. How was yours? #doverjacket
It don't fit. Thank goodness for wearable muslins made from deep stash fabric. Gotta go up 2 sizes and add 4 inches to the torso length for my freakishly long ribcage. Birthday present for a petite friend instead! #wearablemuslin#deeranddoepatterns
Day 2 #yarnlovechallenge2019#yarnlovechallengefeb2 A corner of my (home) Stash Room. That corner where Deep Stash lives! Many of these yarns pre-date Ravelry (came from "big box craft stores") and I'm slowly knitting, crocheting, & destashing my way through them. Knitting gifts for people who will insist the "good stuff" is either too itchy, or too fussy to care for... Still! Yes. That is the inkle loom my brother crafted for me after watching me haggle a post festival tentative acquisition. Like the Kiwi sitting on the floor out of view, fibers for both are sitting in ...
#fiberuary Day 3: My first project was a hat. A friend was coming to visit and I mentioned I might finally want to learn how to knit. She got so excited so brought me yarn, a circular needle, dpns, a beginner book and a small knitting tool travel kit. She showed me how to cast on and got me started knitting around and around in a circle (it was a rolled brim hat so I didn't need to learn how to purl on that first project). At first I had to carve out a handful of minutes each day ...
Getting back to #makenine2019 and my #yorkpinafore this afternoon. @grinlowsews and @sunnydayz06 have inspired me to pair this 🐆 bias binding with a mystery black fabric for this project - both been in my stash much longer than I’m prepared to admit 🤦♀️. Whilst the binding may not be seen (much), it’ll make me 😊 to know it’s there...
Jamie’s Shawl is officially done. A few mods to accommodate my limited yardage but happy to have used up my oldest #handspunyarn in #deepstash for this. Pattern by @cozyupknits. Yarn is Coopworth overdyed dark green by me. For the literary
Braving the cold thanks to my brand new Traveler Aran scarf. 🧶 This yarn was purchased to make a different scarf, but after about two pattern repeats, I remembered I hate knitting scarves and it sat waiting to be frogged for about four years. Enter my LK150. I did this one slightly different, I picked up each edge and knit a three row garter border. 🧶 #dailyplucky#pluckyselfie
Remember, oh, a decade ago when the Noro striped scarf was all on trend? There were a couple patterns and recipes, the most popular by @jared_flood, and they were everywhere. I had just started knitting and felt super-intimidated by stripes, so I bought some beautiful @eisaku_noro #noroyarn Silk Garden and... waited... and... I found the yarn in the bottom of my yarn tub yesterday. I need an all-stockinette small-ish project for meeting knitting, so here we go. One provisional cast-on, 88 stitches, one much-overdue joy-sparking stripey cowl in process. • (At the moment the colors reflect the paperwhites in their ...
Thunderstorm. Not quite the deepest stash but I bought this @madelinetosh Tosh DK from @theimagiknit in San Francisco back in 2013. Bought for a specific project I’ve of course changed my mind many times and now it’s about to become a honey cowl to gift to a friend. I took up knitting in 2011 so 8 years is my oldest yarn, anyone care to beat me?
Some highly figured pieces of wood from my #deepstash. These pieces have all been dressed last spring and I’ve further let them air dry inside the house. I’ve done this because once I build with them there will be minimal movement as each species isn’t as stable as oak or walnut. Wiped down with @odiesoil #safersolvent so you we can see what it will look like with applied. Can you guess the species??? 🌹Also note the paper towel on the last pic. That’s straight oils from the wood.
Finished the lacework increases on my #meryton by @amychristoffers in #nummanummayarns. I spent so long afraid of knitting a me-sized sweater. Afraid the time and yarn would be wasted and it would look like a tent. Afraid I wouldn't like/wear it. Afraid it would be wonky and unattractive. Afraid people would know it was handmade. Why do we fear so much? Why can we not own our ability and our skill, and be confident in that? Well move over insecurities... I'm knitting a sweater. And if I don't like it.... I'll start over. Because, I CAN. ...
Fresh off the needles. Still need to weave in the ends. After all the brioche I’ve done recently I couldn’t face any more in the third section of this shawl (painful hands) so I just did a different striping pattern proportionately based on how much yarn I had left. #shawlknittersofinstagram#knitstagram
I’m so pleased with how this colour combo is playing together. When I got the neon green/yellow variegated in the classics society it was one of those skeins I loved but really wasn’t sure what to do with. Bonus - the teal is from such a deep layer of stash I can’t even remember when I got it... #deepstash#shawlknitting
I think my blanket has grown out of its bag. 😁 Could I use a Santa sack for a project bag? 😂 Maybe it is time to drape it over the sofa when I am not knitting on it... How do you store large long term projects? #knitting#blanketknitting
Last night at my first #knittingtherapy since football regular season ended, I finished knitting the blue #yipyip. The fringe is at his waist so he can sit at a table more easily. Now to add the eyes and antennas... The is from @jennymadeitall’s
