One of my sewing goals for this year was to make a dress for me 😊 Finished it up last night and wore it to my favorite place this afternoon to view the Rene Magritte exhibit with my beautiful daughter at The Dali Museum. This is the third one I’ve made with the Butterick 6318 pattern and this time I decided to go with a decorative zipper sewn to the outside, I really like how it turned out! #thedalimuseum#downtownstpete
Thank you for all your likes and comments for my #gingerjeans. Here are some more pics of the details including flamingo lining. I also used regular red thread for the buttonhole which sews better than top stitching thread and is a nice contrast. ... They had an outing today and are really comfortable, very chuffed with my #memadejeans ...
You know what this is called??? It’s called f* #kn done!! 🙄 after Xmas when I have time, I’m going to rip and restitch or make a new bowl and hope for flat rug. Tips: go slow, make sure your strips are straight to your machine, don’t make one. Things I learned: I found out I wasn’t using my stitch ripper the right way and I also cut my fabric the wrong way too. Who knew?? Apparently the women at LQS know. 🙄 #sewinggoals2018
Update: All the task lighting and shelves are installed in the main sewing room. I’ve unpacked lots more stuff, but there are still 10 or 20 boxes waiting for the supply cabinets to move into the 2nd sewing room, which is waiting on the task lighting to be installed. We’ll get there. #rcmqggoalposts#2018sewingresolutions
#bpsewvember day 6: Cool. The way to stay cool, calm and collected is natural fabrics. I find acrylic and nylon can bring me out in a sweat and that is not pretty. I like to stick with the natural fabrics where I can. Here I am in my cotton jersey Grecian style dress I made in the summer. #jerseyfabric
My current #workinprogress is a pair of indigo 10 oz cotton denim #persephonepants. These are for everyday wear and although they will be part of my modern wardrobe, I think it's absolutely awesome that they are drafted based on men's sailor pants from the 1920-1940 period! All I have left to do is the waistband buttonhole, the hammering on of the buttons and the hem. With any luck these should be done today!
I'm inspired by these Calvin Klein quilt inspired fall fashions I found in the latest Vogue. I can see making a log cabin dress like this! And a crazy quilt skirt is not a bad idea, nor would it be hard to do. Maybe take an existing skirt and sew directly to it??? Not such a crazy thought at that. . I'm in a wierd place of transition right now, full of ideas but not really acting on any of them yet. . #vogue#crazyquilt
Our community has a young guy who won’t be able to go trick or treating on Halloween due to a surgery that’s booked for the 31st. So instead, he’s going out early!!! I love how our little city is coming together collectively to support a family, particularly, Lance. Look for the positives instead of dwelling on the negatives. #readytogetstuffed#halloweenforlance
Finishing quilt tops. Make 9 progress. 2018 RTW fast goals. Men’s make 9 progress. Stash Shrinker and total yards sewn. These and more are all topics I discuss in today’s housekeeping blog post. It’s mostly for me, but if you’re interested you can find it 👉🏼 @skirtfixation blog. . . #menswearmakenine#makenine2018
I’m procrastinating what I’m suppose to be sewing and made this instead!! Super fun. I felt stupid for the first part, have I never cut fabric before?? Ever have those moments where you’re trying to figure out how to do it?? Ugh....so much time wasted!! However, the next one will be sew much quicker to make! I’ve also decided that I really dislike directional prints for this sort of project!! #quickgift#usewhatihave
It's a little late in the year for a seersucker halter dress, but I wanted to make this late 1960s/early 1970s pattern while it is still warm enough to wear it. No white after Labor Day, they say, but then, I've never followed fashion rules very well. I finished this just before a thunderstorm. #sewing#halterdress
So many things I have forgotten! I thought remembering how to make seams line up was hard. Then I started the binding. I think I’ve forgotten everything I knew about binding. But today’s goals were to 1) test the Brother to make sure I hadn’t messed it up in the move, and 2) start testing the room layout and work triangle between machine, cutting table, and pressing station. Bill at @threadedneedletoo fixed the feed dogs on the Brother right before I left for Texas. They still sewed great today, so his magic stretches across states. Goal 1 accomplished! ...
Im calling week two of @birdieanddotfabrics #sugarskullqal done. I’m seeing that I have made a mistake on the mouth again!! WTH!!! Need to swap put two pieces. I’ll do that before my quilt is pieced together. A little trimming and it will be fabulous!! With this fabric it’s a little harder to see the details with the dark background! #itscomingtogether
This one is for @studiohaymor I found a lot, maybe all, of my sewing notebooks. I can use my sitting and resting time to go through them and refresh my memory on all my pipe dreams, ahem, plans. 😁 And I *am* finding a few things I can throw away. The 2nd pic is of a sliver I cut out of the crotch seam when I was fine tuning my pants pattern 4 years ago. I think I can throw that away now that I know I don’t have to tape it back on for better comfort. #sewingpackrat ...
ManOMan, that was hard. I have forgotten so many things in 7 or 8 months. But I tested one of the machines and have a couple of personalized shopping bags for the grands. Tiny progress is progress. #rcmqggoalposts#2018sewingresolutions
Ok, *most* of the stuff is in the new house. My design wall and shelving are back at the old one, and installing the track lighting will wait until hubby is here with me. But assuming I can find anything, I can sew!!!!! A little organization and a little machine testing is in order. #rcmqggoalposts#2018sewingresolutions
As some of you know, my ambitious sewing goals for 2018 were put on hold due to life having other plans. So all those goals have been revised, thrown out, or rethought at this point in the year. Hubby just phoned and asked for the *final* drawing of my sewing rooms so he can have the electricians place the overhead task lighting correctly. I’m not too worried about getting it perfect because we’re putting up fixtures for track lighting. Those little lights can tilt, slide, swivel, and be directed most anywhere along the tracks. But this is the plan ...
I made this from an old maxi skirt that was too large to stay up and too long to walk in without tripping. I used ribbed binding for the first time ever and I love how it came out on the neckline and sleeves! Too bad you can still see bleach stains on the skirt, but it will work as a modern-day house dress. 😁 #housedress#tiedyedress
Almost four months later I still have think of the #humboldtbroncos daily. Completed 04/18 Something that was an easy sew was sure tough to do. I don’t have much to give but I have a plethora of fabric and was able to complete a #quiltsforbroncos . I hope that this will be able to bring comfort, even if for a moment, to someone who was effected by the tragic Humboldt Broncos hockey team accident.
Tried a new style for a zip pouch! What a waste of a zipper!! I followed a set of instructions that was awful, not sure why I wouldn’t just do what I normally do, but I didn’t!! The only thing I love about this is my Tula Pink Hardware from @tangledblossoms !! #sometimesitsabust#ripitandtryagain
Just sharing a tip to hold myself accountable, and on track with my sewing. This shows a line of stickers from each fabric I want to use for my winter line-up. As I finish something the sticker is removed. Nothing like seeing that last sticker come off. #fabricmart#sewinggoals2018
#avidseamstress#daydress not sure I'm totally happy, and it totally works.. but that's what happens when you don't follow the fabric advice or size up to a 16 when you're a 12, and when it's stretchy scuba fabric and has an elasticated waist... @theavidseamstress @day.dress hey hooo I think the fabric is @croftmillfabric awesome quality as always. Love you guys!!!
Current Obsession. I plan to sew pieces of this designer cotton print onto a white denim jacket I bought with this project in mind. Maybe add a luxe faux fur collar and/or cuffs? Now, to dig out the sewing machine! #fabriclove#designerfabrics
Today started off with a lot of business stuff, but once I wrapped that up I could get on with sewing my #carsondress coat hack ala sewing sisters @demonshopper @vintage_dahling. I decided to go with making facings for it, then assembling as usual. I like it already. #makeyourstash
Literally every year I start thinking about capsule planning and how I could actually accomplish this goal. I’ve never completed the project yet. So here’s to another attempt. 😂 who is with me?! #capsulewardrobe#kidscapsulewardrobe
#makenine2018inprogress 1. #soilizzieskirt is done and I love it 2. replacing as I just didn’t get on with Molly well - it didn’t suit my shape and the fabric I used turned me off! 3. is nearly done and I love it! 4. replacing 1940s Trousers as I don’t think I’m going to get to them however I’m doing the shirt dress class 5. instead of as I hope to do the Harriet bra class and it’s difficult for me to get the pin up girls patterns in 🇬🇧 6. ...
My first pair of #arenitepants by #sewliberated are finished! These were made straight from the pattern with no modifications as a kind of glorified mock up. (Adding a little leg length next time...)I feel kinda daring with the floral fabric as most of my clothes are solids in shades of brown, grey, white and blue. I love this design and the pattern was so, so nice. One thing I appreciate is the comfortably higher waistline. After 6 c sections, including a vertical incision with my youngest, I don't like waistbands right on top of the old scars. This elasticized waistband ...
Self set sewing goal for the year achieved- I wanted to make pants and that’s been done. Sew Over It’s Ultimate Culottes, I loved the polka dot version so had to make my own. #soiultimateculottes#sewoverit
My sewing goals for 2018 have been months in the making (i.e. I was too scares to jump in), but I've accomplished a couple of my goals in the last month. What are some of everyone else's #sewinggoals2018 ? . . . . . #sewn
Sometimes I feel such pride of accomplishment when I finish something that fits so seamlessly into my me made wardrobe. #marcytilton pants #archershirt @pilar_bear @timetosew 2 yds midnight linen 58" used $17.20 total cost, scrap for binding. Fabric from @fabricmart
Happy International Day of Happiness to all lovely people out there 💕💕.. Let’s share happiness not just TODAY but EVERYDAY & create a Happier World!!! So as our school is participating in this initiative and to be amongst the Happiest schools in the world, children were wearing Yellow today. We dint have anything in Yellow at home , soooo mamma fairy 🧚🏻♀️ got to work n ended up burning the midnight oil 🕯, to make my lil’ princess a “yellow outfit” .. She woke up asking “ Mamma , is my yellow dress ready?? “ ... Oh YES!! It ...
