🧡 January 2019 - Mustard Astoria 🧡 I cut this out as soon as I'd finished my last one! 📸 over my #colettehawthorn and a RTW skirt from #oasis ✂️ Fabric: The most gorgeous wooly knit I bought from @whitetreefabrics far too many years ago. It's been languishing in my stash since. I bought two metres so there's plenty left for something else... If you're looking for a good knit fabric for jumpers I really recommend it. They had a variety of colours last time I looked. 📍 Pattern: Seamwork Astoria (again) 📏 Alterations: Lengthened bodice 2cm, size small 🔸️ ...

Rose says, "You have funny clown pants mom. Are you dressed as a clown?" Everyone (including husband) chimes in, "Yeah, your outfit looks like a clown!" Great feedback on my first pair of me-made pants since grade school, but maybe next time I just won't combine stripes with polka dots. #clownoutfit#101trousers

Finally got around to taking pictures of my favorite cardigan I finished up last year! I loved picking out the colors for this project and watching the colors meld together as I knit. A boat is safe in the harbour, but that is not why they were built. My boat left harbour a while back and has thankfully stayed a float despite stormy weather. I have travelled far and wide with my trusty crew, powered by a mixture crossfit, marathon running and now a sewing machine of all things! I never imagined that my passion for sewing would have been ignited when I received a buget sewing machine from Lidl one Christmas. But it did and I have worked hard at my craft, created the opportunities and made sure to take them when ...
This month marks 5 years since I was gifted my first sewing machine. 😁🎂🎁🎉 I was hooked immediately, and my love for this hobby (?obsession) has grown and grown. The online sewing community has a huge part to play in this: being able to see and appreciate other sewists' makes only feeds the enthusiasm to continue sewing and learning. #sewistsofinstagram are the best! ✂️ I'm incredibly lucky to have this dedicated sewing space (and a partner who is happy to let it take over a whole room). We moved in 3 years ago and I was more excited about my ...
So long as you are keeping the end goal in mind, there is no need to worry about a little chaos along the way. Prioritise the important things and postpone the unimportant… You can’t be all things to all people all of the time, so don’t try to be. Just be honest to yourself and your family. If you are working towards your goal and enjoying the journey then the buttons can lie on the floor! ☺️Ma

My tiny assistant and I are working on my #soijoandress toile. I bought this hunter green (slight saturation shy of a bottle green) lightweight 100s wool suiting last week at @discountfabricsf in Berkeley, on sale!! (Swipe to see.) I plan to copy @lisacomfort and do a green Joan dress and I might use the rest for a fitted work blazer. Did I mention I have 6 yards of it? 🙈🙊 . Toile fabric was a $3 twin bedsheet from Ikea's clearance section.
There was some seam ripping 🙈 but nothing but the best for my sweetie right? Don’t worry it wasn’t much. 👉🏼🎥💁🏼♀️ #jutlandpants on their way and looking good. 🚲 Making size 32. Added back yoke. Flat felled seams on yoke and inseam. Fly modifications: squared off shield, trimmed right front. Smaller front pockets. 👉🏼👖💙 Part one now uploaded. Join Saturday for the finish! And to see my surprise front pocket fabric. ❤️ #threadtheorydesigns

#sewists : How do you keep your patterns for your original designs organized? Do you use software? Or are you #oldschool like me, and write them in a book? This is my master pattern book and I’d be lost without it. Once a pattern is finalized, tested at least once and all the kinks are worked out, it gets a spot in ‘The Book’. But of course I still use pencil, as we are never done evolving, and either are our

I have a bad habit of waiting to "properly" take pictures of my #memade clothes but recently I've been wearing them and thanking myself later because I feel so good in them. Today I was going to wear a basic top to work and then I said "Hol'up, lemme stunt on my colleagues real quick!" And pulled this wrap shirt dress I made off the mannequin. Your girl is feeling herself and makes me more proud of myself for taking time to make a quality garment. But on a more serious note, yesterday I reflected on my "why" for sewing. ...

This weeks Spoonflower challenge is sponsored by Princess Awesome and celebrates the 🌙. I wanted to try a new style and thought a short comic strip would be a cute alternative. Maya top number 2. There is a pocket in there somewhere. I've got a cracking headache so no smiley face today. I used some Alexander Henry fabric for this. I've had since last year and have agonized over what to use it for. I'm determined to use up my stash this year. #mayatop#marillawalkerpatterns

My pinky red #pippipinafore which was finished and posted in flatlay mid-December and was supposed to be worn for Christmas jumper day but I was off sick 🙄 scarf and wool cardi to keep me warm on this cold, rainy day. #brightsewing @jenniferlaurenhandmade
Hand sewing while watching Youtube videos. It was all fun until I realised I sew the wrong hook. 😅 whose fault is that? . I'm better now, period pain and getting sick at the same time was hard. Long nap time - just what I needed. 😴😁 #theperksoffreelancing#sewists
Hey! First finished piece that I'm actually proud of and am going to use. My machine didnt have any issues today as it was catching thread previously, and the difference between cheap muslin and a structured cotton is SO big. It feels great to use my first piece of nice fabric and is definately grounds for more things! Next up is a pouch for a friend, a pocketsquare and tie for my partner, and then a skirt for myself. Loving it!! 💕🔥 #sewing#sewdaily ...

My new favourite dress! It’s the Jackie dress from @victorypatterns. Fabric is from @spoonflower. I super recommend this pattern to everyone. It’s pretty quick and easy to shorten/lengthen. Is it just me, or when you see vintage, cut-on sleeves like these, do you think about how you'd INSTANTLY pit them out? I always do, every time. Even though there's a gusset situation here, these sleeves (and underarms) are TIGHT. I would be sweating so righteously. How did mid-century women not sweat profusely with sleeves like these? 🤔😅 . #sewing#sewcialists
The recent IG stories from @bygumbygolly about making her black wool pencil skirt got me thinking about her lining dilemma. And, when I get an idea in my head 💡💭 I kinda end up down a rabbit hole 🔍 on the interwebs trying to find an answer to satisfy my curiosity 😂. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- @bygumbygolly's vintage pattern features an inverted box pleat at the bottom of the CB seam (the 📷🖼 pic top-left is by @bygumbygolly). And, whilst there's a tonne of resources out there in the sewing-universe describing how to fully line a gazillion styles of skirts (both with and ...

Made by a very special friend to offer and promote smiles around the world. In the beginning of 2018, a group of friends joined and created a solidarity sewing atelier ("Atelier de Costura Solidária de Vila Real”), making dresses for the “Project Dress a Girl Around the World - Portugal”. Isn’t this adorable and meaningful? The Foxy fabric is from my @spoonflower shop.

Does it look too good to be true❓Well, if it is, then it does. Because this is only a test-buttonhole on some fabric scrap. I always pre-test sew to see the length and width of the buttonholes-to-be. #buttonholes#makingbuttonholes

As requested, here's how I adjusted my Ida clutch to make it bigger. I cut the pattern into 4 sectios and spread evenly. Leather doesn't have a grainline so I tried to make the bag as large as possible out of the leather I had. I cut the darts out of my patterns it makes marking darts onto fabric easier.
