“My skin is kind of sort of brownish pinkish yellowish white. My eyes are greyish blueish green, but I'm told they look orange in the night. My hair is reddish blondish brown, but it’s silver when it’s wet, and all the colors I am inside have not been invented yet.” #shelsilverstein Yin tonight: exploring those uninvented colors inside us all @sohoyoga 6:30-7:30pm . . . . #yoga
“Since Runny’s parted stainting his mur is quite a fess. There’s red whaint on his piskers And chello on his yest. There’s preen and gurple on his face but he could not lare cess. He’s pappy cause he only haints the things that he loves best.” • If I hear her laughing off in the corner by herself, it’s almost guaranteed that she has this book in her hands. Isn’t Shel Silverstein just the best?!

Shel Silverstein will always have a special place in my heart, children's book writer, poet, illustrator, musician. Looking back now rereading his books the bell still resonates loud with me. There is nothing flashy with the way he rhymes, but he always seemed get the point across smooth and sweeter than wine to me. 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️ #appreciationpost#shelsilverstein
- "Said the little boy, "Sometimes I drop my spoon." Said the old man, "I do that too." The little boy whispered, "I wet my pants." I do that too," laughed the little old man. Said the little boy, "I often cry." The old man nodded, "So do I." But worst of all," said the boy, "it seems Grown-ups don't pay attention to me." And he felt the warmth of a wrinkled old hand. I know what you mean," said the little old man.” ______________________________________________ 📖'The Little Boy and the Old Man' a poem from the anthology, 'Light in the ...
Despite the whimsical & somewhat ridiculous ideas in Shel Silverstein's poetry, it's still relatable on some levels. I am a very (very very very) anxious person much of the time & this poem especially resonated with me. However, despite the very real anxiety that the poem illustrates, it kinda stills me to think that some of the anxieties I face are as silly as some in this list of "Whatifs." My anxiety is valid, but when you look at it all from a broader perspective it's easier to see that it's not the end of the world. • • • ...

📖 What is your most “well-loved” book? 📖 I have loved Where the Sidewalk Ends since I was a child, and I have kept the same copy my whole life. Getting this picture was basically a miracle because the whole thing is falling apart. 🙈 📖 I haven’t gotten rid of it and I haven’t bought a new one yet, because I love the memories associated with this one. This book was a beautiful escape for me as a child. Although it is a treasure, I really do need to get a new one soon though. I won’t let my ...

The Giving Tree represents love in its purest form. It’s impossible to read this book without crying, and appreciating the profound beauty of Shel Silverstein’s work. ❓My kindergarten teacher painted a sofa in our classroom “Giving Tree” green, and illustrated beautiful leaves across the top. She used it for time-out, explaining that kids in time-out deserve a special place too. Do you have any special memories related to Silverstein’s work? ❓ #thegivingtree#shelsilverstein

As you’ve probably been able to conclude from the last ten+ posts, these are all miraculous gateways to the unconscious, divined from randomized watercolor stains and function as oracular imprints to set your storytelling gears in motion. Self generated poems and sitcoms ensue. “Dreaming in the Desert”, watercolor and pen, 2015. Original (pic 2) is available, framed, DM me if interested. #theungoogleable#desert
For a book-loving couple! Giant version of a favorite book, and quotes about love from various books and poems wrapped around the top. :) -------------------------------------------------------- #booklovers#customcakes
I grew up loving all of Shel Silverstein’s books and poems. The Giving Tree was definitely a favorite of mine. But this quote has never rang more true to me than it does now. A mother’s love for her child is seriously something fierce.
The traffic light simply would not turn green . So the people stopped to wait . As the traffic rolled and the wind blew cold . And the hour grew dark and late. . Zoom-varoom, trucks, trailers, . Bikes and limousines, . Clatterin’ by — me oh my! . Won’t that light turn green? . But the days turned weeks, and the weeks turned months . And there on the corner they stood, . Twiddlin’ their thumbs till the changin’ comes . The way good people should. . And if you walk by that corner now, . You may think ...
