This wonderful community organization began when it was recognized that there were of a number of kids in need of assistance in our community. A volunteer based non-profit who always works behind the scenes, the Angel Network works tirelessly through clothing drives and fundraisers to make sure kids have what they need. 2018 Rockin’ Around Cooperstown Ugly Sweater Run/Walk is back! Our 5th annual race will be held on Saturday, December 1, 2018. The race starts at 12:00pm. Day of race check-in and registration will take place from 10:30–11:30am at the American Legion Post 579 (60 Main Street, Cooperstown NY 13326). So wear your ugliest sweater and help support the Catskill Area Hospice & Palliative Care. Dr. Anush Patel marks the next member of the "Cooperstown 20." Division Chief of Hematology/Oncology at Bassett Medical Center, Dr. Patel came to this United States in 2001 from India. After completing his residency in Cooperstown, he fell in love with the community and returned after a brief stint. He now raises two young daughters and is a leader in the community. Our next member of the "Cooperstown 20" is none other than the Mayor of Cooperstown, Ellen Tillapaugh. This past Spring, Tillapaugh was elected as the 2nd female mayor in the Village's history. A strong leader with a deep family history in Cooperstown, Tillapaugh's term is looking to be one of action. The village currently is undergoing major downtown sidewalk renovations, and will be renovating historic Doubleday Field in preparation for its 100 year anniversary. "Cooperstown 20" next member has been involved in Cooperstown retail for decades. Judy Curry, one of the many artists that operates Cooper Country Crafts, which has been in existence for over 40 years in Doubleday Court. She is one of the hardest working behind the scenes individuals in the community, organizing and producing the Ladies Shopping Guide, while being involved in many non-profits such as the Leatherstocking Brush and Palette and Quilt clubs. The next member of the Cooperstown 20 is Abby Rodd, Director of Production for The Glimmerglass Festival. With more than 25 years at the Festival, Abby has worked on over 100 productions, traveling with several of them to present around the world. A graduate of Cooperstown Central School, Abby has been involved in many community initiatives, including serving as president of Otsego Area Rowing and, importantly, serving as a volunteer First Responder for the Town of Springfield. Next on our countdown of "Cooperstown 20" is restaurateur Joe Vezza. In 2017, Vezza purchased the old Pepper Mill building that had been a seasonal restaurant and overhauled the entire space to create a new year-round restaurant, Upstate Bar and Grill. This marked the his third restaurant here in Cooperstown (Bocca and New York Pizzeria), which brought more jobs and excitement to the community. "Cooperstown 20" is pleased to announce its next member, Phil Leinhart, Brewmaster of Brewery Ommegang. The history of hops and brewing in Otsego county is rich, but its Phil's craftsmanship that has set him a part. Starting in 1987 he began to brew beer and brought his talents to Cooperstown in 2007. People from around the world make the trek to Cooperstown not just for baseball, but to taste the beer produced by Phil and his crew. When Kate Lanza, owner of Kate's Upstate, opened in May 2017 she set out to offering trending and affordable fashion for residents and visitors alike. Yet, in the 18 months she has been open, her impact has been even more substantial. CCS Superintendent Dr. Bill Crankshaw has taken no time in getting involved in his new community. A rotarian and leader who lives by the mantra of never asking someone to do something he isnt willing to do himself, he has become a big supporter of many local non-profits and the arts. Today we actual honor two members of the "Cooperstown 20" with the owners of Cooperstown Bat Company, Tim and Connie Haney. Overcoming the loss of its mill in 2017, the company only continued to grow. In addition to their line of collectibles, their Pro Line soared, gaining national appeal, even being used in the 2018 World Series. In her efforts in her position to promote the protection of the Otsego Lake Region, involvement with Otsego Outdoors, overseeing and the Cooperstown Farmers Market, she works tirelessly to improve the quality of life here in Cooperstown.
